This Wicker Effigy is our take on the Wicker Man. The Wicker Effigy journies the space between realms to carry your intentions into the cosmos or your blessings to the gods.

You can burn the effigy with other offerings as a sacrifice to the gods or a specific deity you want to honor. You can also burn it as a conduit for your intentions. Add bay leaves or scrolls of parchment with blessings for attraction or gratitude to your patron deity. You can also anoint it in oils & decorate it with herbs & flowers to sacrifice in honor of the season or for a fruitful harvest. The idea is that when burning it, you are charging both your offering & intention.

This listing is for one of these Wicker Effigies, handmade with black dyed straw & orange dyed straw, wrapped with black twine. They measure about 4” high & include a small scroll of parchment & description card.

WICKER EFFIGY

Traditionally, the Wicker Effigy, often referred to in pop culture as a “Wicker Man”, is a large wicker statue that was burned by the Druids (ancient Celtic priests) as a sacrifice to the gods during fire festivals to bless the great harvests. There are some accounts that men guilty of crimes would be placed in the statue as a sacrifice to the gods, but other accounts claim that various herbs, breads, meats, wines, & other offerings were burned with the statue in order to please the gods for their blessings of a bountiful harvest.

Nowadays, they are still made in various forms & sizes by some cultures & pagan groups, like cornucopias, corn husk dolls, & straw dolls. In pop culture, statues like the Wicker Man are burned at fire festivals & music festivals to kick off their celebrations.
