Sacred Herbs Petition Ritual / Fire Sacrifice for Litha / Midsummer Incense / Summer Solstice

At Litha, Druids built a bonfire with Oak & offered nine sacred herbs to the fire in honor of the god & the goddess. Just as the Sun God is at the height of his virility, the bonfire symbolizes the sun at its highest peak. Oak, being one of the most sacred trees to the Druids, plays a huge role in Midsummer festivities, not only for its burning, but as a symbol of the Oak King who is rich in abundance at this time before making a slow descent in the wheel. Oak’s Celtic name is “Duir”, meaning “doorway” & also symbolizes the crossing of the threshold into the waning part of the year, as well as the crossing from this realm to the spirit/fairy realms.

Each of the herbs in this mix are chosen for being sacred to the Druids & for their Midsummer correspondences to fertility & abundance during the Summer Solstice. Use this blend of herbs to cleanse & protect during the Litha season & as a sacrifice to the fire for abundance & celebration, & in honor of the Horned God Cernunnos.
