This tempel (Swedish for “temple”) is inspired by the temple sacrificed at the end of the movie Midsommar by Ari Aster. It is a close replica with our own handmade touches!

Place it in front of a window & let the light shine through the open doors & window during the Summer Solstice!

It measures about 11” tall & nearly 12” wide. It is entirely hand built with pine wood & painted yellow on the outside with blue doors on the interior that are on hinges & can open to expose the blue on the outside (like from the movie). The front panel also has a cut out for the window & symbol of the maypole atop it.

The interior of the temple is stained dark walnut & contains six wood plaques with the bindrune symbol from the movie (representing “gift” or “sacrifice” & completion). At the base there are 5 hay bales representing the four cardinal points & the spirit at the center (where Christian is sacrificed in the movie).

*These are made to order. The temple in the photos is a prototype with slight imperfections & will not be sold to anyone.

This set includes THREE harvest dolls, representing the main characters of the Midsommar Queen (Dani), an Elder, & Bear Sacrifice (Christian). See below for details:

Harvest dolls & poppets can be used as an archetype for any Solstice altar to represent fertility & the harvest. In some cultures, they are often made in the image of someone/something else & used for protection. These Swedish dockas or “dolls” have much cultural significance, especially amongst Pagans & are especially inspired by the characters & archetypes in the movie, Midsommar by Ari Aster, which focuses on a specific Swedish Pagan Cult.

MAJ DROTTNING DOCKA: The docka (Swedish for “doll” or “poppet”) is based on Dani’s character & her transition into becoming the Maj drottning (Swedish for “May Queen”). Doused in a gown of floras & an extraordinarily large flower crown, she is overcome with self-realization & realization of the natural world, & becomes the maiden that ushers the sun to its highest peak, the erection of the trees, & blossoming of the flowers. The May Queen in many cultures represents growth, fertility, vitality, & youthfulness. In some European traditions, she represents the Fairy Queen from the realm of the Fae.

This doll is created in the dramatic Midsommar image & is made with locally sourced corn husks & covered in natural dried moss & flowers. Atop her head is a giant flower crown also covered is natural dried moss & flowers.

    Measuring about 5-6” tall.

BJÖRNDOCKA: The Björn (Swedish for “bear”) is based off of Christian’s character (Dani’s boyfriend) & his transition into becoming the sacrifice that would cleanse the cult of their sins & sorrows, while in a way clearing Dani of her own. The bear is also a symbol of great strength & courage to the Vikings, which had a significant influence on the Midsommar movie. In many Pagan cultures, the bear symbolism is also rooted in Midsummer traditions, representing strength, vitality, & thriving.

This doll is made with locally sourced corn husks & is tucked into the skin of a bear plushy (much like Dani’s boyfriend in the movie) that has been partially put back together.

    Measuring about 4” tall.

ÄLDRE DOCKA: the äldre (Swedish for “Elder”) represents the elders in Midsommar who serve in the ritual acts or as sacrifice. This doll is made with locally sourced corn husks dressed in a jacquard smock with a traditional Scandinavian hatt with various colored tassels.

    Measures about 4-5” tall.

*Although these items are based on Pagan traditions that have been celebrated by various cultures for centuries, they are deeply inspired by the movie Midsommar by Ari Aster.
