Veneralia, an ancient Roman festival, honors Venus Verticordia (“Venus, the changer of hearts”) & Fortuna Virilis (“Virile Fortune”). On the First of April, the cult would celebrate Veneralia in honor of Venus by bathing the cult image of Venus in men’s baths along with themselves & adorn her & themselves with wreaths of Myrtle (a tree symbolizing lasting love). They would then ask Venus Verticordia for help in affairs of the heart, sex, & marriage.
