Ostara marks the Spring Equinox & the time at which day & night are at equal length (in some parts of the world). “Ostara” means “light of the Earth” & as the days begin to increase. the sun raises higher into the sky, & darkness begins to wane, the inner darkness within our own psyches has the potential to bring forth light & usher in new beginnings. The land sprouts its first blooms & the trees are full & lush again. Just as the seeds & the bulbs beneath the soil are growing into fruition, it is a time for the creation & gestation of new ideas, as well as a time to honor Mother Nature & her abundance. The main themes of Ostara are Balance, New Beginnings, Nurture, & Growth. This is a good time to complete Spring Cleaning (physically & mentally) & to start working on the ideas that were planted initially during Imbolc, nurturing their progress/growth. Both Goddesses, Eostre & Blodeuwedd are celebrated during the Spring Equinox as representations of the natural, wilder side within us all & the beauty of Nature. While Eostre holds symbols of fertility, such as the hare & egg, Blodeuwedd represents the sacred maiden & the honoring of Nature. Along with Ostara, there are many other festivals celebrated on the Spring Equinox around the globe.
