This Wicker Effigy is our take on the Wicker Man. The Wicker Effigy journies the space between realms to carry your intentions into the cosmos or your blessings to the gods. You can burn the effigy with other offerings as a sacrifice to the gods or a specific god/goddess you want to honor. You can also burn it as a conduit to put your intentions out into the universe. Add bay leaves or scrolls of parchment with blessings for attraction or gratitude to your patron god/goddess. You can also anoint it in oils & decorate it with herbs & flowers to sacrifice in honor of the season or for a fruitful harvest.

This listing is for one of these Wicker Effigies, handmade with wheat straw & natural twine. They measure about 3” high & include a small scroll of papyrus & information card.

The effigy & scroll are eco safe & biodegradable.


WICKER EFFIGY

Traditionally, the Wicker Effigy, often referred to in pop culture as a “Wicker Man”, is a large wicker statue that was burned by the Druids (ancient Celtic priests) as a sacrifice to the gods during fire festivals to bless the great harvests. There are some accounts that men guilty of crimes would be placed in the statue as a sacrifice to the gods, but other accounts claim that various herbs, breads, meats, wines, & other offerings were burned with the statue in order to please the gods for their blessings of a bountiful harvest.

Nowadays, they are still made in various forms & sizes by some cultures & pagan groups, like cornucopias, corn husk dolls, & straw dolls. In pop culture, statues like the Wicker Man are burned at fire festivals & music festivals to kick off their celebrations.
