  • Details
Brigid is the Patron Goddess of a variety of things, including birth, pregnancy, the home, all domestic & dairy related activities, as well as smith-crafting, healing, & poetry. Just like the season of Imbolc, she is strongly associated with the home & hearth, & blessing the fields for future growth. Brigid means “exalted one” & in Gaelic, translates to “fiery arrow”, signifying her association with the Sun & all of its correspondences (light, nourishment, growth, etc.). Brigid is also depicted as a triple goddess, but not necessarily in the Maiden, Mother, Crone trifecta, but rather depicted with various associations (Brigid holding a lamb, Brigid carrying a sheath of grain, & Brigid with a scroll or bowl of milk). She is the daughter of The Dagda & it is said she fed on the milk of otherworldly faeries or cows. She is often depicted by her worshippers as milking a cow & thought to provide ample milk & sustenance to her followers. She is believed to also be the same goddess as Brigantia, honored by the Brigantes tribe in Northern England & that Britain itself was named after her (Brittania is the Romanized version). In the coming of Christianity, she was transformed in St. Brigit, continuing her name, legend, & sacred sites, but said to be the Midwife of Christ & her festival is celebrated as Candlemas instead of Imbolc. The Sanctuary at Kildare, Ireland is famous for its healers & is known to house one of Brigid’s flames, a sacred perpetual fire used for healing, blessing, & inspiration. It was maintained for centuries, until it was snuffed out during the Reformation in the 16th Century. It has since been relit & is maintained to this day.

This Brigid print is on 8.5x11 cardstock & is wrapped in cellophane with a cardboard backing.
