Veneralia/Venus Goddess Devotion & Altar Set MADE TO ORDER

Veneralia, an ancient Roman festival, honors Venus Verticordia (“Venus, the changer of hearts”) & Fortuna Virilis (“Virile Fortune”). The Cult of Venus Verticordia was established in 220 BC in response to the sexual prowess of Romans, inspiring a chastity amongst certain women for the benefit of the State. The symbol of Venus & her temple was meant to persuade them to cherish the traditional sexual properties & moralities known to please the gods. On the First of April, the cult would celebrate Veneralia in honor of Venus by bathing the cult image of Venus in men’s baths along with themselves & adorn her & themselves with wreaths of Myrtle (a tree symbolizing lasting love). They would then ask Venus Verticordia for help in affairs of the heart, sex, & marriage. The importance of the rituals was to celebrate both males & females in the physical relationship. In Modern times, we can look at this allegorically in that our own chastity could be abstaining from whatever might be harming us physically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually in order to grow into a better relationship with oneself & others. We can also think of the rituals celebrating both men & women in various relationships with each other & themselves.
